Label Objects

Every geographic object has a label displayed in the Plan View to assist in identification. The label consists of a text string that names the object. It may also carry one or more hyperlinked icons. The label always reflects the ‘Name’ of the object as specified in the Feature Properties box and this can be changed if required.

The association between an object and its label cannot be lost: When an object is selected in the display, its label is highlighted.

Tip: You can also select an object by running a query on the ‘Name’ field See Querying data.

The labels for features and zones can be moved around independently of the objects they refer to, so you can generally place a label in a convenient location. For end points, symbols, and waystations, the position of the label is fixed a few pixels below the object. Labels can be switched off by layer if the information they contain complicates the display without making a significant contribution to the aspect being studied. See Layer View tab.

A label can also carry a hyperlink to a supporting file. This link is represented by a small icon below the text.
