Symbols (object data)

A symbol is a single character, of any size and in any TrueType font, used to identify an object. Individual instances of a symbol can have a unique name that supplies additional information. For example, the “H” used to denote a hospital may have a label that supplies the full name of a particular hospital and a hyperlinked document that provides supporting information.
