Vertical Geometry
Vertical geometry for alignments can be described using:
Described in the Profile section in the LandXML format.
VPI, circular, and symmetrical parabola elements can be used.
The vertical alignment must be the same length as the Horizontal alignment.
The vertical alignment is to the bottom of the ballast level.
Cross-Sections
The cross-sections selected should be for the full extent of all earthworks:
Cut/fill toe lines
Bridge abutments
Tunnel portals
Cross-sections do not need to be specified at regular intervals.
Issues may arise though if too few or large irregularities in spacing in cross-sections take place.
For rail projects, the cross sections should not include the ballast for the project. The ballast will be modeled using Quantm software.
