Earthworks

To view the construction details along the highlighted route, click on the Earthworks icon, in the Alignment tab.

You can view earthworks in the Plan view and the Profile view.

View Earthworks in Plan view

View the Legend window to see the colors associated with the different earthworks details.

If more than one alignment is shown in Plan view, the highlighted alignment is the last to be drawn so that it (and its construction details) can be easily viewed without hindrance.

When you select another alignment, the construction details disappear from the old route and appear on the new one.

Earthworks can also be viewed in Profile view. Earthworks on the left bank are cross-hatched diagonally down to the right. On the right bank, they are cross-hatched diagonally up to the right. The limits of the earthworks are the altitude at which they meet the natural land surface, which can be above or below the altitude of the land above the centerline.

Cut appears brown, and fill appears green. In the following figure, diamond brown hatching at about 3,700 meters indicates that cuts exist on both sides of the road:

This diamond hatching that exceeds the natural land surface indicates that the alignment is crossing a ridge in a saddle, and the cuts extend further up the slopes on both sides of the low point where it crosses.

In the following figure, the upward brown diagonal and downward green diagonal at 4,000 meters indicate that there is cut on the right and fill on the left.

The diamond pattern at about 4,100 meters is lower than the natural surface, which in turn is lower than the diagonal up pattern, and indicates that there is a cross-slope from the left up to the right:
